Mangaluru: On the third day of the week-long ‘Seva Sapthah’ celebrated at the St Aloysius College (Autonomous), environmental awareness programme ‘Go green, Go organic, Plastic-free Campus and Waste Management’ was held on August 23.
SAC’s ‘Seva Sapthah’ was celebrated from August 20 to August 25 to commemorate the 450th birth anniversary of its patron, St Aloysius Gonzaga. The programme celebrated the life and selfless service of St Aloysius Gonzaga.
To convey the message to the students the college organized a workshop on “Plastic-free Campus and Fine Arts”.
Prof Rajamani Ramakunja, retired professor of Kannada at S.V.S. College, Bantwal was the chief guest for the inauguration of the event held at the Fr. Robert Sequeira Auditorium. Eranna Thippannavar, Artist of Prasad Art School, Mangaluru and Dr. John D’Silva, Director of Xavier Block were the guests of honour. Rev Dr Praveen Martis S.J. presided over the programme and workshop coordinator Dr Jyothi Miranda, Associate Professor, Dept of Botany was present.
In his address, Prof Ramakunja appreciated the efforts of the college to raise awareness on environmental protection. He encouraged students to make honest efforts at leading a plastic-free life. He also explained how students can convey the message of environmental conservation through fine arts and participating in plastic-free Campus workshop. He urged the students to promote 3 R’s i.e. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Addressing the students, Dr. John D’Silva urged the students to use time properly through skilful activities like fine arts.
Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis encouraged the students to involve in maintaining a plastic free campus. He urged the students to be a role model to others in this regard.
Chinmayee and team conducted the prayer. Workshop coordinator Dr. Jyothi Miranda welcomed and introduced the guests. Olinda compered the programme. Rashmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany proposed the vote of thanks.
