Shivamogga: It has been almost a year since Raghaveshwara Bharati Swami, of Sri Ramachandrapura Math (Shivamogga district), was accused of sexual harassment by Premalatha Shastri.

Resuming investigation of the rape case, a CID team led by Dy SP Chandrashekhar visited the Ambagiri mutt and questioned people there for several hours on Sunday.

The crime investigation department sleuths were accompanied by the complainants Premalatha Shastri and her husband Divakar Shastri to the mutt where they questioned the staff of the mutt and recorded their statements. They also visited Bankuli mutt in Siddapur and other places in Uttara Kannada district for investigation.

The CID sleuths resumed the investigation of the alleged rape case two days ago. The complainant, Premalatha was a singer at the Mutt’s Rama Katha programmes. The sleuths questioned all those who are involved in the Ram Katha programmes.

Medical examinations of both the singer and the accused have already been done and the results were positive and it has proved the rape allegation levelled on him. But the probe was delayed after the seer sought legal recourse and as he was said to have had political backing.

This particular high profile case has taken many interesting turns in the past year after Premalatha’s daughter alleged that her mother was raped by the seer on several occasions in the past few years.
