Afghan student missing after police catch him for visa expiry
A young Afghan national has mysteriously vanished in Bhopal after being denied further admission to university due to his expired visa, prompting an extensive police search.
Syed Rashid Shahadat, a journalism graduate from Jagran Lake City University, had applied for a diploma in photography but was turned away as his visa was no longer valid. Despite multiple attempts, he failed to secure an extension, leading to his undocumented stay in India.
According to Sanjay Soni, in-charge of Kolar police station, Shahadat had been residing in Amarnath Colony on Kolar Road. However, he has been missing for the past two months. Authorities are now questioning locals and tracking his last known movements.
His visa officially expired on March 25, 2024, after which he remained in the country illegally. The police have registered a case against him as of March 1 and are investigating all possible angles, including the possibility of any foul play.
Officials highlight that cases of foreigners overstaying their visas are not uncommon, and efforts are underway to locate the missing youth. The search continues, with law enforcement determined to uncover his whereabouts.
