Another maternal death in Karnataka: 22 year old mother passes away
In a concerning incident coinciding with BJP’s protests over maternal deaths in Karnataka, a 22-year-old mother passed away at McGann Hospital, Shivamogga. This marks the district’s first reported maternal death of its kind.
Dr. Siddanagoudar P, the district surgeon, clarified that the fatality was caused by sudden blood clot formation, ruling out any connection to medication errors. The victim, Kavitha, hailed from Harihar in Davanagere district and had been admitted for the delivery of her second child.
On Friday morning, around 8 a.m., Kavitha gave birth to a healthy baby girl, weighing approximately 3 kilograms. Unfortunately, post-delivery complications arose, as she developed critical blood clotting issues that ultimately claimed her life.
While the infant is reportedly in stable condition, the family of the deceased mother has yet to file an official complaint regarding the incident. The hospital authorities maintain that all standard procedures were followed during Kavitha’s treatment.
This tragedy comes amid ongoing political tensions, with the BJP accusing the state government of failing to address the rising maternal mortality rate. The incident has fueled debates about the quality of maternal healthcare services in Karnataka, especially in rural districts.
Authorities are now urging families to remain vigilant about postpartum symptoms and seek immediate medical help when needed. As investigations proceed, questions surrounding the adequacy of maternal healthcare persist.
