Bengaluru: Fearing Covid 19 surge, the BBMP has decided to urge the state government not to allow New Year celebrations (December 31, 2020) on any street of the city.
It can be recalled that Brigade road, MG road, Indira Nagar are famous for New Year celebration.
A huge crowd used to gather here every year to welcome the New Year. To ensure safety of the people, a lrge number of policemen are deputed to monitor the crowd.
“The health department warned against any relaxation fearing second wave of Covid 19. Cold wave is also reported in the city. Keeping in mind both the factors, we want simple celebrations confined to the houses ofthe people wanting to celebrate,” said N Manjunath Prasad, commissioner, BBMP.
Meanwhile, home minister Basavaraj Bommai informed that detailed SoPs will be released on New Year celebrations soon.
