Bengaluru: The City police won the hearts of millions of people on Saturday July 31 by donating blood to the cause of paediatric cancer patients who are undergoing treatment at the Kidwai Hospital.
75 police personnel including Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Patil, Chickpet Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravi, inspectors Rajiv, Kumaraswamy, Prashanth, Prabhu, and three women constables donated blood at the camp.
According to the police, they decided to hold a blood donation drive after getting to know that blood banks in the city are facing severe shortage of blood due to Covid – 19. Various NGOs including Lions’ Blood Bank joined the initiative.
“Our idea is creating awareness about the importance of blood donation. Many are not coming forward to donate blood citing Covid as the reason. We want to infuse confidence among all,” said DCP Sanjiv Patil.
Police have decided to continue the drive in the coming weeks as well following good response for the first such camp.
