OBC tag for Veerashaiva-Lingayats: Decision only after CM’s Delhi visit

Bengaluru: Even as pressure mounts to include the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community in the OBC list, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, the Lingayat strongman of the BJP has said that the decision in this regard will be taken only after discussion with the leaders in New Delhi.

Yediyurappa is set to discuss several important issues during the Cabinet meeting and one among them is to recommend the inclusion of the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community into the Union government’s list of Other Backward Classes (OBC).

CM Yediyurappa is all set to fly to New Delhi in a couple of days. He will be discussing various issues including the inclusion of the Veerashaiva and Lingayat communities in the OBC list.

BSY said that the matter has been referred to the Attorney General, who will have to submit his opinion.

Two days ago, the state government issued an order and appointed B S Paramashivaiah as the chairperson of the Veerashaiva-Lingayat Development Corporation. Paramashivaiah is also the president of the Karnataka Veerashaiva Development Organisation.

As far as the much-awaited Cabinet expansion is concerned, the CM said that the final list of candidates will be ready in a few days, following which an announcement will be made.
