Bengaluru: Out of the 6,500 staff appointed for COVID duty, only 3,500 have reported. Notices have been issued to the 3,000 staff who have not reported for work, causing a delay in the detection process in the Western Zone of BBMP, said DCM Dr CN Ashwathanarayan on Saturday, August 8.
He was chairing a review meeting of BBMP officials in the city to take stock of the COVID-related operations.
COVID zonal in-charge officer Ujwal Gosh issued a notice to those who have not reported for work, including Central government employees, and 700 have replied, he said.
Due to the shortage of employees, the swab collection process is getting delayed, he said and instructed college education department commissioner P Pradeep to provide additional staff from the department. He also instructed the officials to look for alternative arrangements for the lab technicians who are also fewer in number.
Regarding the complaints about hospitals denying beds for COVID care as specified by the government, the DCM instructed the officials to personally visit and verify the allegations and if proven true, to take action against such hospital administrations.
Ujwal Gosh then updated the DCM about the meeting held with the various hospital administrations.
