South, north Karnataka likely to receive more heavy rains

Bengaluru: Heavy rains have been predicted for south interior Karnataka (SIK), Malnad, and parts of north interior Karnataka (NIK). Light to moderate rains are expected over the coastal regions of the state, according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).

On Monday, the KSNDMC detailed a prediction that is valid till 8.30 AM on October 20. Widespread light to moderate rains with isolated heavy to very heavy rains will be witnessed in the Ramanagara, Mandya, Mysuru, Chikkaballapura, Chamrajanagara, Tumakuru and Chitradurga districts of the SIK region.

“Scattered to widespread light to moderate rains likely over Kolar, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Davanagere districts of SIK,” it stated, according to a report by ANI.

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rains with isolated heavy to very heavy rains are likely to be witnessed in the Bellary district and up to moderate rains likely over the Koppala, Raichur, Haveri, Dharwad, Gadag and Bagalkote districts in the NIK region.

“Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rains likely over Belagavi, Vijayapura and Yadgir districts. Isolated light to moderate rains likely over remaining districts of the NIK region,” the KSNDMC added.

The report further states that the Malnad region of Karnataka will witness scattered to widespread light to moderate rains with isolated heavy rains over the Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts, while the Shivamogga district will see moderate rains.

The Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts of the coastal belt will have scattered to widespread light to moderate rains, the report added.

Thunderstorm with lightning are likely to occur at isolated places over Karnataka.

Parts of Karnataka, especial the NIK region is reeling under floods situations due to heavy rainfall over the past few weeks. Several thousands of people have been evacuated and rescue operations are underway.
