Bengaluru: The decision of the state government to name Yelahanka flyover after RSS ideologue Veer Savarkar had not gone down well with the opposition, which has raked up the regional pride issue.
Now, attacking former CM Siddaramaiah, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Prathap Simha has questioned why the ‘Kannada’ emotions and regional pride were not kindled when Siddaramaiah named Indira Canteen after Indira Gandhi.
The flyover in Yelahanka is all set to be inaugurated by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday and the opposition led by the Congress’ Siddaramaiah and JDS’ HD Kumaraswamy accused the government of insulting freedom fighters from Karnataka with its decision to name the flyover after Savarkar.
However, attacking the opposition in general and Siddaramaiah in specific, Simha questioned why the former CM forgot the regional pride when he named Indira Canteen after Indira Gandhi.
“Not just that. Bandipura, Nagarahole forests too were named after Gandhi family and then Siddaramaiah never thought about the Kannadiga freedom fighters,” he said adding that he fails to understand the logic behind the move opposing the naming of the flyover after a great freedom fighter.
While suggesting that the opposition must stay away from playing politics over such trivial reasons, Simha said that people are wise but the Congress is still foolish.
He further said that Siddaramaiah must visit the Andaman solitary confinement cell where Savarkar was lodged and then speak about the great personality that Veeer Savarkar was.
