Battle for Bengaluru’s Second International Airport Heats Up
Tumakuru: The race to host Bengaluru’s second international airport is intensifying, with Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara making a strong case for Tumakuru, while Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has been lobbying for a location near his Kanakapura Assembly constituency, between Bidadi and Harohalli.
Speaking at the Republic Day celebrations at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, Dr. Parameshwara revealed that Tumakuru is already prepared with two identified land parcels: 3,000 acres near the Vasantha Narasapura Industrial Area off NH-48 and 4,000-5,000 acres near the Seebi temple in Sira taluk.
Tumakuru: A Rising Hub
“Tumakuru is just 70 km from Bengaluru and is experiencing rapid growth. With 11 Assembly constituencies and three Lok Sabha constituencies, it is poised to be integrated into Greater Bengaluru,” Dr. Parameshwara stated. He emphasized the district’s potential as a key industrial and logistical hub, making it an ideal location for the new airport.
Meanwhile, DK Shivakumar continues to push for a location near Kanakapura, highlighting the convenience for residents in South Bengaluru and the growing Bidadi-Harohalli industrial corridor.
The decision on the airport’s location will play a critical role in shaping regional development and connectivity, with both leaders vying to position their respective constituencies as strategic beneficiaries.
