Belagavi: District Minister Satish Jarkiholi announced that fraud cases involving thousands of women targeted by microfinance companies across Belagavi district would be transferred to the Crime Investigation Department (CID). Speaking after hoisting the national flag on the 76th Republic Day at the district stadium, he emphasized the need for a thorough investigation since the fraud involves amounts running into hundreds of crores.
The minister noted that microfinance providers have allegedly harassed individuals in areas such as Gokak, Hukkeri, Yamakanmardi, Savadatti, and Belagavi. He urged victims to report these incidents to the police, ensuring that action would follow. Highlighting the government’s commitment, he mentioned that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had already implemented legislation to regulate microfinance operations and prevent such exploitation in the future.
Overbridge Construction Stalemate
Minister Jarkiholi also addressed delays in the proposed overbridge for Belagavi city. He revealed that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had announced the project, but opposition from local BJP leaders has stalled progress. If the Centre fails to act, the state government plans to allocate ₹100 crore annually to ensure its completion.
