Belagavi: Belagavi Rural MLA Lakshmi Hebbalkar donated Rs 2 lakhs towards the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
She made her donation on Tuesday evening, making her the first senior Congress leader to make a donation to the cause.
Hebbalkar and her brother, Channaraja Hattiholi, handed over the cheque for the amount when an RSS team visited their house in Sadashivanagar of the Belagavi district as part of their door-to-door campaign to raise funds.
Lakshmi Hebbalkar, who is a former president of the KPCC women’s wing, is considered to be close to KPCC president D K Shivakumar.
