Cops nab thief for attacking seer in Belagavi

Belagavi: A thief allegedly attacked a seer who was trying to prevent the theft. The incident has been reported form a branch of the Hubballi Muru Savira Mutt in the Hosur village of Belagavi district’s Bailahongal taluk.

Gangadhara Swamiji of the branch mutt is the seer who was attacked. The accused thief is identified as Mallikarjun Budashetti.

It has been alleged that the thief snuck into the mutt in the wee hours of Wednesday morning and allegedly tried to steal. When the seer spotted him, he tried to catch hold of him, which is when the latter attacked the former with a sharp weapon.

The seer was rushed to the Belagavi district hospital for treatment and is said to be out of danger.

The Bailahongala police have launched an investigation.
