DCM Savadi draws public ire for refueling private vehicle at govt depot

Belagavi: Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi has stirred up a fresh controversy after a video surfaced showing him getting his private vehicle getting refuelled at a government bus depot in Belagavi.

Several people have questioned the DCM for refuelling his private SUV, which takes around 44 litres of diesel to fill the entire tank, at the depot, with many calling the act “VVIP racism” as the payment for the fuel is paid for by the taxpayers. In the viral video, it can be seen that the car’s tank is being refuelled fully.

Asianet News (Kannada) reported that DCM Savadi was inaugurating a rest house nearby while his SUV was being refuelled by his driver.

The depot at which the DCM’s private vehicle was allegedly refuelled is owned by the state government and is only meant only for government buses, not for private vehicles.

According to a report by IBT, the total cost of the refuel costs approximately Rs 3,432.

Meanwhile, it is reported that DCM Savadi laid blame on the depot manager, saying that the latter should have refused to fill his tank. According to Asianet News, Savadi said that he gave his driver money to pay for the diesel. “It is not right to speculate that some of the petrol bunk crew did not notice me. I instructed the driver to pay the diesel money to the Transport Department,” he added.

It can be recalled that this is not the first time that the DCM has been caught in a controversy. The last time, Savadi landed in big trouble and drew the public’s ire when he was caught on camera watching porn on his cell phone during an Assembly session in the year 2012.
