Belagavi: After invoking the Karnataka Industrial Disputes Act, the state government started the clampdown on the striking RTC employees by arresting Kodihalli Chandrashekar and dismissing some employees who refused to report to work.

The RTC employees’ strike has continued for the fifth consecutive day, causing disruption in the transport services and creating a great deal of discomfort for people all across the state.

Soon after he landed in Belagavi, Police detained Kodihalli Chandrashekar on his way to meet employees and motivate them. He was elected as the honorary president last year to take charge of the RTC employee’s agitation and negotiate with the government for their demands.

Belagavi police said that Chandrashekar was detained for not taking requisite permissions to take part in the protests.

To instil fear amongst the strikers, the state government also transferred 656 staff members and 32 trainee staff who refused to report to duty were dismissed. As a response, 1400 RTC busses were seen on the roads by March 10.

But the protest will continue till the demand made by the employees is met,” said Chandrashekar.
