Belagavi: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president D K Shivakumar, on Friday, October 2 criticised the BJP-led state government for not performing MP Suresh Angadi’s last rites in Belagavi.
It can be recalled Minister of State Railways Suresh Angadi, a native of the Belagavi district, succumbed to COVID-19 on September 23. His last rites were performed the next day in New Delhi due to strict COVID restrictions.
Speaking regarding the same to media persons, DKShi said that the MP’s body could have been thoroughly covered and brought to Belagavi for his last rites so that his family members and supporters could have taken part in the rituals.
“The government has done a great injustice to Angadi’s family and followers by not bringing his body to his native place. When the government has done such an injustice to the family of their own MP, how can we expect it to do justice to the commoners?” he questioned.
Regarding the upcoming by-elections in Belagavi owing to the demise of MP Angadi, DKShi said that he would talk to all party leaders and get their opinions on a suitable candidate for the bypolls.
