Belagavi: Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi has asked if there is anything wrong in making India a Hindu country. Considering that Angadi is a minister in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Government, his statement is expected to result in a major controversy.

“Every religion has a county, while Hindus don’t have a country of their own. Therefore, this is the right time to make India a Hindu rastra,” he said. “Don’t you think Hindus need their own country?” he asked the journalists. He was speaking to the media in Belagavi, his home constituency.

Meanwhile, he also accused the Congress party of making an issue out of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the proposed NRC for political mileage. He also tried to justify his “shoot at sight” statement (where he said that those damaging railway property must be shot at sight) by saying that tough action is needed to protect the property of the railways as it serves the nation.
