
Beloved photographer ‘Var Surya’ loses life in tragic car crash near Kodikal
A heartbreaking road mishap claimed the life of 48-year-old Surya Narayan, a renowned photographer and cherished personality in Udupi’s artistic circles. The incident occurred early Wednesday near Kodikal Cross on the Mangaluru–Udupi highway when his vehicle overturned and crashed into a roadside stormwater drain.
Surya, who was driving to the Nandikeshwara Temple in Panambur to cover an event, reportedly lost control of his car. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the drain, turning over violently. Passersby and local residents rushed to his aid and pulled him out of the wreckage.
Despite being taken to a nearby hospital immediately, Surya succumbed to his injuries while en route. The sudden loss has sent shockwaves through the photography community and among those who knew him personally.
Surya had previously worked for several years at the esteemed Kediyoor Varn Lab in Udupi. Recently, he had launched his independent photography studio in Uppala, located in the Kasargod district. Widely known by his affectionate nickname ‘Var Surya,’ he was not only respected for his professional skills but also loved for his warm demeanor and humble nature.
Colleagues, clients, and friends remember him as a passionate visual storyteller who deeply connected with people through his lens and laughter. His unexpected demise has left a void that will be hard to fill.
