Bengaluru Cab Drivers Accused of Scamming Women Passengers Heading to the Airport
A viral post on X by user Shivam Sourav Jha has sparked online debate, claiming a new scam where cab drivers in Bengaluru allegedly target women by demanding extra charges during airport rides. Jha described how his friend was pressured to pay for fuel midway through the journey after the driver cited an empty tank and refused to proceed without payment. Jha detailed that when his friend declined, the driver threatened that she would miss her flight, compelling her to pay ₹1,000.
In follow-up tweets, Jha explained further issues: some drivers take inner roads to avoid tolls, with any fare difference going unpaid back to the customer. Jha’s post highlighted that his friend encountered this scam twice, and he tagged companies like Rapido, Uber, and Namma Yatri, noting that the incident involved a Rapido driver.
Many users resonated with Jha’s account, sharing similar experiences with cab scams. One user advised against using cabs for airport runs, favoring metro or bus services, while another noted an experience where a driver demanded an additional fee for air conditioning. The thread also pointed to the KSRTC Airport bus as a more dependable and affordable option, with one user suggesting MakeMyTrip for booking cabs due to their reliability.
As stories of these incidents spread, passengers are urged to remain vigilant and consider public transit alternatives.
