Bengaluru: Gaming Addict Engineer Turns Burglar, Lands Behind Bars
Bengaluru: A Hyderabad-based mechanical engineer, once known for his academic brilliance, has ended up in police custody after turning to crime in a bid to earn fast money.
L Srinivas, 39, also called Kammepalli Srinivas, hails from Kamepalli village in Andhra Pradesh. Despite a promising start to his career and stints in various software firms, his downfall began with a dangerous addiction to online gambling and gaming. The habit left him financially devastated and socially isolated.
Srinivas, a divorcee, eventually resorted to house break-ins in Bengaluru. Police recently cracked three burglary cases from last month, recovering stolen property worth approximately ₹9 lakh. The thefts occurred in locked homes around Kodigehalli.
Investigations revealed that Srinivas has a staggering 86 criminal cases registered against him in Hyderabad. Most involve house thefts, but several relate to cyber fraud, including duping individuals by posing as a job facilitator.
Police said Srinivas lives alone in a paying guest accommodation, having been estranged from his family. His elder brother is a tech professional in the U.S., and his mother resides in Hyderabad.
“He had a promising career. But his life spiraled out of control after he got hooked on online gaming,” said officials. His story stands as a cautionary tale about addiction, desperation, and how far one can fall.
