Bengaluru: Man Dies After Alleged Police Assault in Land Dispute
Bengaluru: A controversy has erupted in Bengaluru following the death of Ramaswamy, a resident of Kottanoor, on September 14. His wife, Muniamma, has alleged that he died due to injuries sustained from an assault by the Konanakunte Police Station.
Muniamma claims that her husband’s death was a result of police brutality. The police, however, assert that Ramaswamy was arrested in connection with a land dispute after a complaint was filed by a construction center engineer on July 17. He was released on bail following a medical examination.
A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Konanakunte police station, and a post-mortem examination has been conducted. The investigation is ongoing, with the cause of death yet to be determined. In response to the death, relatives of the deceased staged a protest by leaving the body at the police station, demanding justice.
South Division DCP Lokesh Bharamappa stated that Ramaswamy was treated for diabetes and high blood pressure during his medical examination. “A case has been registered, and we are investigating,” he said.
Muniamma has also filed a complaint with the city police commissioner, accusing the Konanakunte inspector of assault. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about police brutality and the need for a thorough investigation.
The community is awaiting the medical report to ascertain the exact cause of Ramaswamy’s death. The case highlights critical issues regarding police procedures and the handling of sensitive cases.
