Bengaluru Man Held for Social Media Threat Against PM Modi
A man from Bengaluru, identified as Nawaz, has been arrested for posting a provocative video on social media allegedly calling for a bomb attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence, police confirmed on Tuesday.
The Bandepalya police registered an FIR and swiftly apprehended Nawaz, who has now been remanded in judicial custody and lodged at Bangalore Central Jail.
Speaking to media, Joint Commissioner (East) Ramesh Banoth stated that sedition charges have been invoked against the accused. “We traced the post to an Instagram account belonging to Nawaz. Upon investigating his background, we found that he had earlier been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Tumakuru,” Banoth said.
In the now-viral video, Nawaz allegedly made inflammatory remarks, questioning why PM Modi’s residence had not been bombed and blaming him for creating a “war-like situation.”
Nawaz, a mechanical engineer, is a resident of Bandepalya, Electronic City in Bengaluru. His prior record under NDPS has added weight to the seriousness of this case, say authorities.
The incident has raised concerns about the abuse of social media platforms to incite violence, and officials have warned of strict action against those engaging in similar activities.
