Bengaluru man outsmarts Rapido driver’s scam with clever ‘reverse-UNO’ tactic
A Bengaluru man recently shared his experience on Reddit of outwitting a Rapido cab driver who tried to scam him after a ride from Central College to Hoodi. Despite the driver’s low rating of just 2.6 stars, the user decided to book the ride due to the heavy rain and the driver’s proximity. Initially, the app displayed a fare of ₹385, but upon reaching the destination, the driver insisted that the fare was ₹600—almost double the original price.
The rider quickly realized that the driver was trying to pull a fast one. Instead of confronting him, the commuter decided to play along, staying calm and pretending to believe the driver’s story. The driver, noticing that the app showed no discrepancies in the ride history, switched to a different account to make it appear as if the trip had no previous history, and continued demanding the inflated fare.
The rider then cleverly diffused the situation, pretending to sympathize with the driver’s supposed “server issue,” and assured him he would pay the full amount after the app updated. As the driver grew frustrated and became rowdy, the rider stuck to his story. Eventually, the driver reluctantly accepted the ₹385 fare after waiting for 20 minutes and realizing the scam was unsuccessful.
The incident sparked an online discussion, with many praising the rider’s quick thinking and calmness. Some suggested paying online in the future to avoid such scams, while others commended his restraint and clever handling of the situation.
