Bengaluru Metro Sets New Ridership Record Thanks to Diljit Dosanjh’s Concert
Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) reported a historic milestone on Friday, with over 9 lakh passengers using the metro system, driven by the high turnout for Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Dil-Luminati’ concert and the usual weekend rush.
The total ridership reached a remarkable 9,20,562 on Friday. The Purple Line (Line 1) saw 4.39 lakh passengers, while the Green Line (Line 2) recorded 3.12 lakh riders. The Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange Station handled a significant 1.67 lakh passengers. This new record surpasses the previous high of 9.17 lakh on August 14, 2024, and earlier records of 8.26 lakh and 8.25 lakh on August 6, 2024, and Independence Day 2022, respectively.
The surge in metro ridership was attributed not only to the concert at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) but also to the typical weekend increase in commuters. Additionally, the metro’s Green Line connection to BIEC provided easy access for concertgoers, who were advised by traffic police to use public transport to avoid congestion on Tumkur Road.
This record-breaking footfall highlights the growing reliance on metro services, especially for large events, and the efficiency of Bengaluru’s public transportation system in handling high volumes of passengers.
