
Bengaluru Minibus Driver Sentenced for Fatal Accident
Suneel Kumar, a 37-year-old minibus driver, has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison and fined ₹9,000 by the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SJDM) Court for his role in a fatal accident in 2021. The accident occurred on September 14, 2021, at Varthur Gunjur Main Road, when Kumar’s sudden swerve caused a collision with a motorcycle.
Details of the Incident
The motorcycle rider, Kalyan Kumar, initially survived but later went into a coma due to severe injuries and passed away on December 12, 2021. The driver was charged under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304(a) (causing death by negligence).
Court’s Ruling
The court imposed an additional penalty of two months and 10 days of imprisonment if the fine remains unpaid. This verdict highlights the legal consequences of reckless driving on public roads.
