Bengaluru textile shop owner caught after robbing tenant’s gold
A textile businessman in Bengaluru was taken into custody for stealing gold ornaments from his tenant’s home, as per The Times of India. The accused, 25-year-old Vinay, resides on 9th Main, 5th C Cross in Srinivasanagar and runs a fabric store in the same area.
Facing financial troubles, Vinay chose a desperate shortcut—looting his tenant’s house. His family had leased out the ground floor to Rohini’s household while they occupied the upper level. On March 15, at around 9:30 PM, Rohini and her family secured their home before leaving for Tirupati to attend a family function.
They came back on the morning of March 17 at 8 AM but soon left again to visit Rohini’s mother. Returning at 7:30 PM, Rohini went to store her jewelry in a locker, only to discover the cupboard’s drawer forced open and ornaments weighing 70 grams, worth approximately ₹5 lakh, missing.
With no signs of a break-in, police suspected an insider’s role. Forensic experts collected fingerprints from the crime scene while officers monitored Vinay’s behavior. Their doubts intensified, leading them to cross-check his prints.
The results confirmed his guilt. Under interrogation, Vinay admitted to the theft, blaming financial distress and business failures. Law enforcement recovered the stolen gold from his residence, and he was placed in judicial custody on March 24.
