BENGALURU: A 39-year-old construction worker was killed on Sunday evening after a speeding car struck him while he was crossing National Highway 44 near Devanahalli. The victim, identified as Pintu Paswan, succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a private hospital. Police have arrested the driver for causing death by negligence.

Worker hit while crossing busy highway

The incident occurred around 6.15pm near Sattva Apartments. Paswan, a mason employed with a private company, was reportedly crossing the highway from the Sattva Apartments side towards Kannamangala when a white Toyota Innova (registration number KA 50 ME 9972) allegedly rammed into him at high speed.

According to eyewitness accounts, the force of the collision flung Paswan onto the bonnet of the car before he fell back onto the road. A co-worker and other bystanders rushed to assist the seriously injured man.

Victim died before reaching hospital

Witnesses arranged for an ambulance, and Paswan—bleeding heavily—was transported to a nearby private hospital. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police said the vehicle was being driven towards Devanahalli at the time of the accident. The driver, identified as Mohan Kumar C.M. (34), has been arrested on charges of causing death by negligence.

Police begin investigation

Authorities have initiated further investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash. Police are examining whether speeding, reckless driving, or poor visibility contributed to the fatal collision. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers for pedestrians crossing stretches of the NH-44 corridor near rapidly developing residential and commercial zones around Devanahalli, where high-speed traffic and insufficient pedestrian infrastructure frequently pose risks.
