The Karnataka government has established a new cabinet sub-committee to reassess unresolved matters concerning the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) initiatives. This committee will focus on two major proposals: the reinstatement of the 110-km Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway and the development of a 13-km connecting road to Bidadi.

These proposals, which were originally part of the framework agreement with NICE, have faced significant delays. In a recent meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, officials examined the transfer of 1,916 acres of land from the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB). They also addressed land-related obstacles that have hindered progress on the Peripheral Ring Road.

A major topic of discussion was the prolonged delay in completing the Bidadi road, which could have been finished within six months. The committee underlined the necessity of holding officials accountable for this delay.

Additionally, NICE has requested 7-15 acres for establishing casting yards and storage spaces. The committee also evaluated a long-standing proposal by NICE for the acquisition of 10,000 acres to facilitate the Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar supported this project, criticizing the NHAI-designed highway.

However, the committee’s recommendations seemed to have overlooked several court orders and previous government suggestions. As a result, a detailed review by the newly formed sub-committee will now take place to address these concerns.
