Bengaluru’s C-CAMP Pioneers Eco-Friendly Farming Solutions
Bengaluru: The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) in Bengaluru has handed over two innovative bio-based agricultural solutions, AphidControl and XanthoControl, to PI Industries.
The official technology transfer took place in Delhi at the office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, attended by Prof. AK Sood (PSA) and Kris Gopalakrishnan, Managing Trustee of Pratiksha Trust.
This initiative, part of the Discovery to Innovation Accelerator (DIA) programme, is supported by the Office of the PSA and Pratiksha Trust, aiming to convert deep scientific research into impactful industry applications.
Sustainable Farming Breakthrough
With crop losses in India ranging between 10-35% annually due to pests and diseases, these bioactive solutions present a game-changing advancement for eco-friendly agriculture.
AphidControl, an organic botanical insecticide, is derived from plant extracts and specifically targets aphids, a major threat to crops. Unlike chemical pesticides, it offers a sustainable, environmentally safe alternative with superior efficacy over existing biopesticides.
XanthoControl, developed from microbial metabolites, fights Xanthomonas, the bacteria responsible for bacterial blight in over 40 crops, including tomatoes and pomegranates. This biocontrol agent provides a safer and more effective alternative to synthetic pesticides, addressing concerns about antimicrobial resistance.
Developed in collaboration with CSIR-IHBT, CSIR-CIMAP, IBSD, DBT, and PI Industries, this marks a significant leap toward sustainable agriculture.
