Vijayapura: After Ashok Managuli, the JD(S) leader and son of late MLA, M. C. Managuli joined the Congress and also secured party ticket for the coming by-election in Sindgi taluk, the younger brother Shantaveer Managuli has reportedly decided to follow in his footsteps.

According to reports, Shantaveer who is the present president of Sindgi Town Municipal Council, would be soon quitting the JD(S) and joining the Congress along with several of his supporters.

Shantaveer has decided to join the Congress after his brother succeeded in clinching Congress ticket.

Ashok has already started a campaign in the taluk just after the confirmation of the ticket. He first appealed to JD(S) leader and former Chief Minister, H. D. Kumaraswamy to have an understanding with the BJP in Sindgi to make sure that BJP does not field any candidate, however the request did not go well with the JD(S).

Realising that staying in JD(S) may not get enough votes for him in the polls, Ashok knocked the door of the Congress, which instantly agreed to induct him in the party and confirmed the ticket.

Now, Shantaveer also feels that joining Congress would get him more political advantage than staying in JD(S). Moreover, if he stays with the JD(S), it is not possible for him to openly campaign for his elder brother.

While their father who had prolonged political career of four decades, stayed loyal to JD(S) till his last breath, his children neither feel the same loyalty for JD(S) nor think that they have a political future in the JD(S).

Some reports suggest that the primary reason behind the brothers quitting the JD(S) is that they may not get sympathy votes that their father gained after losing to BJP by a small margin.

This is the reason why Ashok joined Congress, and his brother too would soon be joining him.

It is possible that Shantaveer may join Congress in the presence of some Congress leaders. It may be noted that the Congress had planned a mega rally in Sindgi on March 19 itself, but due to some reason, the planned has been postponed.
