Vijayapura: Admitting that the Central Government is taking Rs. 32/liter for petrol as excise duty, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi however has claimed that fifty percent of it is also given to the State government for the development.

Addressing presspersons during his private visit here, he said that though the government is receiving criticism for taking Rs 32 for excise duty on petrol, however, half of it is also given to the States.

The Minister claimed that even though the center is ready to bring petrol and diesel under the ambit of GST, however, the States are ready for it as they too get VAT on petrol.

“ Meanwhile, the government is putting pressure on the oil companies to extract more crude oil in India itself which will help them reduce the petrol prices”, he said and hoped that the issue will be resolved soon.

He said that except for the petrol price issue, the Modi government has been doing a commendation job and giving a corruption-free government.

Joshi opined that both center and State governments together have to think about reducing the prices and helping the people.

On the political front, he said that Chief Minister, B. S. Yediyurappa is doing a fine job.

In response to the visit of MLA, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal to Delhi after reportedly receiving show-cause notice from the party, Joshi refused to reply on the matter.
