Vijayapura: After some confusion over including Vijayapura in the districts of category-1 to lift more restrictions after the lockdown, the district has now been included under category-1 where the majority of the business establishments will remain open till 5:00 pm.

Earlier, the government had not included the district even though the Covid positivity rate was recorded at 5%. As per the criteria, the government had decided to open most of the business activities till 5:00 pm in only those districts that have a positivity rate of 5% and below.

“ The new guidelines have come into effect from Monday itself”, said Deputy Commissioner, P. Sunil Kumar.

Giving the list of districts where the revised guidelines have been issued, he said that besides Bijapur, other districts are Udupi, Bengaluru Rural, Shivamogga, Ballari, and Chitradurga.

As per this order, all essential and nonessential business activities of the district will remain open in these districts as well till 5:00 pm. Earlier, the permission was given only till 2:00 pm for these districts.

Meanwhile, the government had come under sharp criticism for not including Bijapur district under category-1 even after having Covid positivity rate under 5%.

People were also blaming District In-charge Minister, Shashikala Jolle for not forcing the government to include the district under category-1 even after it is having under 5% positivity rate.

Deputy Commissioner, P. Sunil Kumar however had said that he was trying to convey the message to the Ministers concerned to include the district under category -1.

He has said that the matter has been brought to the notice of Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol and In-charge Minister, Jolle.

The efforts seem to have worked as the district has been finally included in category -1.

“ We are happy that at least now we can do our business till 5:00 pm. For the last over 45 days, our business had come to a grinding halt. Since we did not fall under essential services, we were asked to keep the shops shut. But we are happy that we can do our business and cover some losses which we have incurred due to closure of shops”, said Vikas Porwal, one of the garment traders of the city.
