BJP stages protest in Kalaburagi over contractor suicide
The BJP intensified its criticism of the Congress government in Karnataka by organizing a large-scale protest in Kalaburagi, demanding the resignation of Minister Priyank Kharge and a CBI investigation into the suicide of contractor Sachin. Prominent BJP leaders, including R. Ashoka, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, led the demonstration, which saw a significant turnout from party workers. The protesters were detained briefly by police before being released.
R. Ashoka accused the Congress government of shielding Raju Kapanur, the main accused in Sachin’s suicide case, describing him as a gangster who was removed from the Goonda Act. He alleged that three of the accused in the case are Congress members and blamed the government for corruption and neglect, vowing that the BJP would continue its fight for justice.
Chalavadi Narayanaswamy questioned Priyank Kharge’s qualifications for holding a ministerial post, alleging misuse of constitutional rights and highlighting the exclusion of other Dalit leaders in the region. “Dalits in Kalyana Karnataka remain marginalized, while Priyank Kharge enjoys privileges,” he said.
C.T. Ravi, a Legislative Council member, criticized what he termed “supari politics,” asserting that only ethical governance would be tolerated in Karnataka. N. Ravikumar, another Council member, challenged Kharge to visit Sachin’s family, criticizing his perceived arrogance and lack of empathy.
The BJP’s protest reflects escalating tensions over alleged governance failures and corruption in the state.
