Brave pitbull sacrifices life shielding kids from deadly cobra in Hassan

In a heart-wrenching incident in Kattaya village, Hassan district, a loyal pet gave its life defending its owner’s children from a venomous cobra on Wednesday.

The terrifying episode unfolded when a massive cobra slithered into the residence of Shamanth and advanced toward an open courtyard where young children were playing. Noticing the danger, Shamanth’s dogs sprang into action.

According to Shamanth, his pets — including a pitbull and a bulldog — engaged in a fierce and prolonged battle with the snake. The pitbull, named Bheema, fearlessly blocked the cobra’s path, preventing it from nearing the children.

During the intense scuffle that lasted over 15 minutes, the 12-foot-long serpent struck Bheema multiple times with its venomous bites. Despite Shamanth’s desperate attempts to pull Bheema away from harm, the courageous dog refused to back down.

Eventually, the pitbull, exhausted and gravely injured, collapsed after ensuring the children were safe. Sadly, Bheema succumbed to the snake bites soon after. The family’s bulldog, which also participated in fending off the cobra, escaped unhurt.

In a display of sheer tenacity, the dogs managed to tear the cobra into three pieces, neutralizing the threat completely. One of the villagers captured the dramatic scene on video, which has since spread rapidly across social media platforms.

Bheema was a prized pedigreed dog, having won accolades at numerous dog shows throughout Karnataka. Shamanth and the local community mourn the loss of this heroic guardian.
