Gig Workforce Set To Grow To 23.5 Million By 2029 30

The Economic Survey 2023-24 predicts that India’s gig workforce will expand to 2.35 crore (23.5 million) by 2029-30, constituting 4.1% of the total workforce.

As of 2020-21, NITI Aayog’s estimates based on national labor force data indicate that 77 lakh (7.7 million) workers were already engaged in the gig economy. With the rise of food delivery and instant delivery apps, gig work has become a significant part of urban life. However, this sector remains largely unregulated, leaving workers with minimal job security.
