Mangaluru: The seventh episode of NewsKarnataka’s definitive HR talk show, People@Work on the topic, ‘Mom at Work’ was held on Sunday December 19.

Ramesh Ranjan, Editor and Founder of HumanEngineers.com, a popular HR website that deals with managing the people side of the business hosted the event.

Special guest of the event was Sikta Mishra, AVP Business Transformation at Accenture, Bengaluru.

Talking on the juggle between the work and family by a mother, she reasoned why actually ‘working mother’ is a topic of interest.

She said, “It is a turbulent phase for a woman to be back in the race of work post motherhood. She also detailed on a woman’s motherly and professional responsibilities. She spoke about her own state of mind being a working mother.

She said, it is the support system that we look forward to in our ‘back to the race’ journey and explained on the various opportunities available for a mother to protect her child during this phase.

She also pointed out certain revolving myths around working moms like, moms are multi-taskers, women are born mothers, women are not too reliable or not serious about work and career, women have no clue on finances, and children of working moms turn out to be brats among others. She also shared her own experience on how she raised her little child.

Answering host’s question on how to draw a line between home and work l, she replied, “it indeed is a difficult task, especially during pandemic. And so, all that we could do is ‘be real’, and let your child know your work status. Also make sure and promise your child you are there for them and spare a definite time for your child in a day.”

Ramesh Ranjan signed off from the programme stating, “company should take a step forward and ensure that there is a company culture conducive for working mothers.”
