Mangaluru: Spearhead Media Pvt. Ltd celebrated International Women’s Day in the presence of the honourable Ghayathri. B, General Manager and Zonal Head, Bank of Baroda.
Ghayathri released the new edition of monthly magazine ‘Karnataka Today’ and also had an interactive session with Spearhead Media Group Director Brian Fernandes where she spoke on women influencers during her professional journey, and her professional journey in general as a woman.
Elaborating on her Journey of 34 years in the Banking sector, she said, When I was promoted to scale III, one of the Self-Help Group members came to congratulate me but I was reluctant while being wished by her as I thought, “I would be doing the same work, and it didn’t matter either its scale two or three”. But with all the wisdom this woman replied, ‘It may not be a great celebration for you. But with this promotion you will begin to ascend towards higher posts.” Hearing such words of wisdom from an illiterate lady left me perplexed, she added.
Speaking about changes on how women approaching Bank has changed, she said, “Earlier when women came to banks, they would never open their mouth and ask their queries. But it is not the same now. Even rural women too are turning out to be entrepreneurs,” she observed.
Earlier a branch had only one or two ladies. But now we witness a minimum of 30% are women in a single branch, she said describing the inclination in women towards work. “Women are comfortable in clerical posts. Higher the professional ladder, the women are more reluctant to climb due to not so friendly time schedules.” Further throwing light on work setting and women, she said, “Working on ‘updating the existed knowledge’ and ‘Networking’ are two significant shortcomings among women which has to be worked upon.”
Ghayathri as a concluding note, motivating women said, “Women has to have ‘self power rather than being empowered. Practice, Implement and the success is your’s. ‘Dont shy away from transfers accept and enjoy it.
