Mangaluru: The 37th Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) of Dakshina Kannada Automobile and Tyre Dealers Association, Mangaluru was held at 06:00 PM at Hotel Ocean Pearl Inn, Bejai, Mangaluru on Sunday, October 31, 2021. Members from both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts attended the meet. During the meeting it was proposed by members from Udupi that a new association should be formed for automobile retailers of Udupi district as the present banner of Dakshina Kannada district did not enjoy official acceptance in the local administration of Udupi district. This had led to practical problems during Covid lockdown.

On behalf of the managing committee, association treasurer Shashidar Pai Maroor, who is also the President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mangalore explained to the members that this was a genuine problem experienced by all trade bodies after the bifurcation of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts in 1998. Even after the bifurcation, the Dakshina Kannada Automobile and Tyre Dealers Association had continued to represent the dealers of undivided Dakshina Kannada, for the last two decades. Shashidar Pai assured the members that if the members of Udupi start a new association for Udupi district, the Dakshina Kannada Automobile and Tyre Dealers Association would extend all assistance, cooperation and mentoring required to enable the new organization to establish itself. He also proposed that both districts associations should work together in the future as the two districts have common work culture and common problems affecting the automobile industry, and thereby uphold the trade unity of the coastal region.

Association President Kasturi Prabhakar Pai welcomed the gathering. Secretary Vilas Kumar read the Annual Report. Treasurer Shashidar Pai Maroor gave the Financial Report. Managing Committee member T. Ratnakar Pai conducted the election of office bearers and all the existing office bearers were unanimously reelected. Chandrakanth Pai Maroor was elected as the new Editor of the Auto Sandesh, the Association newsletter in the place of K. G. Shenoy, who passed away recently. Shashidar Pai Maroor was congratulated on being elected as the new President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Rich tributes were paid to the following members who had departed during the year: Association Patron K. G. Shenoy, Seetharam M. (JV Son & Co, Mangalore), Pangal Rabindra Nayak (Hanuman Transport Co., Udupi) and T. Srinivas Bhat (Popular Auto Associates, Kulai)

Prasanna K. R. rendered the prayer. T. Ratnakar Pai gave the vote of thanks. Manaswitha Rao compered the programme. The meeting concluded with the national anthem, followed by dinner.
