This article looks at how India’s gambling laws and legislation compare to those of other places in the world. People may arguably live in a global village that is dominated by the internet and access to, allowing access to shared entertainment and media across the globe. However, a host of country-specific or regional laws and legislation governs what people can play and how they gamble both online and in a land-based venue.

India and gambling

India is so large that it has always had difficulty having one set of laws and regulations for gaming and online gambling across the country. Goa, for example, has always been a region known for land-based casinos and international gambling. The laws and regulations allowed for this, and many international gambling and casino companies set up in the area. Whereas other areas such as the Punjab or Faisalabad have a much stricter outlook on online gambling and, in fact, don’t generally allow land-based gambling or casinos.

A comparative discussion

So, in effect, there are many similarities between the gambling laws across India and those across the rest of the world. In fact, the best example is to compare India with the USA. Both are incredibly large land masses with huge populations. More specifically, the US also has some generic country-wide laws and legislation that govern any online and land-based casinos. Then there are also state-specific laws that govern gambling in each of the states. The overall federal laws must be adhered to, but each state can then legislate on the specifics or additional aspects of the law for their own population and those in the state or businesses based in their state. In the US, Utah and Hawaii are the only two states that disallow all forms of gambling and casinos. The other 48 have some form of allowance that is governed by the law.

One of the most difficult areas to legislate for is the online gambling or online casino sector. It is incredibly wide and is typified by Spin online casino where you have access to the same table and card games that can be found in the land-based casinos, only with live dealers so you can enjoy the social and engaging factor of the games. It is a highly professional entertainment sector, and games can be played on mobile and thus accessed across all states and regions. Sites such as these have become the go-to for millions across India, who want to play live casino games with a safe and secure means of payment in an interactive space with the best games in the world.

This presents a huge area in India that needs to be governed to make it safe and accessible for all. The best thing to look for on any online gambling or betting site is the license; note where the site has been licensed, and then note whether or not it is a legal entity or registered in the state where you choose to play the game.

Furthermore, the use of VPNs has served to complicate the legislation in that players now hide their true location and can play from anywhere in the world. The legislators thus look to register and license those gambling concerns based in the region or country and then ensure that they only allow access to those whose IP address is shown and proves that they are in the range or area as accepted or covered by the gambling license.

Online gambling and the land-based gambling laws that govern how and where we can play are important to know about. No one wants to win and then has issues accessing these winnings. Or to fall foul of the state laws just by playing an online game that is unlicensed and unregulated.
