According to Twitter counter, Modi’s Twitter handle lost 3,13,312 followers a day after the announcement was made. Modi, who tweets from @narendramodi, has nearly 24 million followers on the social platform.

On the other hand, Kejriwal’s Twitter account registered a surge in the number of followers in the last three days, social media and website monitoring platform Trackalytics reported. On November 11, 16,319 new followers were added while on November 10, 18,543 people started following Kejriwal. On November 9, 15,189 new followers came to Kejriwal’s Twitter account. Before these three days, Kejriwal had nearly 7,000-9,000 followers joining his account.

As part of sweeping steps to check black money, Modi on November 8 announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes will cease to be legal tender from midnight. The Prime Minister said in a televised address that all the 500 and 1,000 denomination notes can be deposited in banks and post offices between November 10 and December 30.
