Mumbai: The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,063.27 points, was trading at 25,719.79 points (at 9.16am) in the early session, down 312.59 points or 1.20 percent from the previous day’s close at 26,032.38 points.
The Sensex has touched a high of 26,063.27 points and a low of 25,709.02 points in the trade so far.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also plummeted 84.55 points or 1.07 percent and was trading at 7,796.15 points.
Meanwhile, the rupee depreciated by 18 paise to 66.28 against the US dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange in early trade on Wednesday due to fresh dollar demand from importers.
The dollar strengthened against major world currencies overseas which impacted the rupee sentiment, dealers said.
The rupee weakened due to fresh demand for the dollar from importers and domestic equity markets opening with losses.
