Bengaluru: For the first time, India will be hosting the World Employment Conference. Indian Staffing Federation (ISF), the apex body of the flexi staffing industry, will be hosting the 49th Ciett World Employment Conference (WEC) in the country in New Delhi, in May 2016.

Expected participants include over 100 delegates from 40 countries mainly from staffing firms which are on the cusp of skilling and employment

ISF will partner with the Ministry of Labour & Employment, the MHRD and the National Skill Development Council for the Conference.

ISF President Rituparna Chakraborty said, “To host WEC, a country has to bid two years in advance. This event will help showcase India as an emerging talent powerhouse and share best practices such as the ability to hire in large numbers in a country with diverse environments.”

The country has a workforce of 430 million of which 90 per cent work in the unorganised sector. Of the 40 million people who work in the formal, organised sector, 1.7 million are flexi-workers and ISF members represent 5 lakh of such workers.

Labour Minister of Karnataka, PT Parameshwara Naik, said the State has identified a total of 76 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in line with the public-private-partnership model for upgradation.

“We are planning to identify a total of 6,000 students to utilise the benefits of this project. We are making a concerted effort to ensure that today’s youth is relevant to the requirements of companies with the requisite skill development programmes in place,” he said.
