Mangaluru: The PG Department of Social Work (MSW) ventured out for a cleaning drive and a plantation programme at Nandigudda Graveyard on July 28. As many as 80 students of MSW and five faculty members took part in this programme.
The programme was inaugurated by former Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation and the corporator of the ward Jacintha Alfred. She spoke to the students about the importance of protecting nature. Godwin D’Souza, an Industrialist from Mangaluru, and Jeeth Roche, Coordinator and a nature lover, was also present. Godwin D’Souza provided materials required for the programme.
The cleaning drive and the plantation programme started at 1.30 pm and ended at 4 pm. Heaps of discarded plastics, bottles and syringes were collected and safely disposed of. Students and staff dug pits and planted saplings.
