Pro-VC of Yenepoya University inaugurates webinar on active ageing

Mangaluru: Yen-Senior Care for Active Ageing an online programme, a 14 module Cognitive stimulation activity was inaugurated by Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Yenepoya University Dr C.V.Raghuveer and the Registrar of Yenepoya University Dr Ganngadhar Somayaji on 4-7-2020.

Dr Sebastina Anitha D`Souza, Professor of Occupational Therapy from Manipal Institute of Allied Health Sciences was the resource person and spoke on the topic Occupational therapy for prevention of brain ageing. Dr Prabha Adhikari HOD Geriatric Medicine Compered the programme.

Ageing is the process during which structural and functional changes accumulate in an organism as a result of the passage of time. The changes manifest as a decline from the organism’s peak fertility and physiological functions until death.

65 participants from Mangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and Dubai joined the programme including members of Spoorthi Charitable Trust, AGE Mangalore, People`s Association of Geriatric Empowerment. Cognitive stimulation activity module modified for Indian culture will be used for the Indian elderly and middle-aged through this programme which will run for 14 weeks as once a week programme on all Saturdays at 11 AM

Participants were very happy with the programme. Among participants was an 85-year-old parent who also could speak sitting at home and interact with the speaker of Dr Arun Maiya.
