Mangaluru: Rathnakaravarni is not just a Jain poet, he is universal. Along with his literary overview, there has to be work to introduce the poet to the new generation, opined Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P S Yadapadithaya.
He addressed the gathering after inaugurating ‘Rathnakaravarniya Shatakagalu- Ondu Avalokana’- a state-level seminar jointly organized by Mahakavi Rathnakaravarni Study Chair of Mangalore University and Kannada department of the University College Mangaluru at Shivarama Karantha Sabhabhavana of the college here on Wednesday. “Rathnakaravarni was not a blind follower, he was critical. It is our pride that his “Bharathesha Vaibhava” has been translated into many languages,” he added.
Former Professor Prof. Ajith Prasad said that it is impossible to understand Rathnakaravarni without reading ‘Bharathesha Vaibhava’ and his ‘Shatakas’. In his introductory remarks, Rathnakaravarni Study Chair Coordinator Prof. Somanna said that the message of peace by Rathanakaravarni is being spread to different districts and states through the study chair. Principal Dr A Harisha presided over the function. Kannada Department Head Dr, Madhava M K welcomed the guests.
During the sessions, Mysore Acharya Vision Gurukula Edu Service Managing Trusty Dr H P Mohana Kumara, Ujire SDM College (Autonomous) Registrar Dr B P Sampath Kumar and Retired professor (Bengaluru) Dr Sathyanarayana Mallipatna spoke on various topics. Nireeksha Jain Hosmer and Attur Suresh Rao sung the poems of Rathanakaravarni and a few also presented essays in the parallel session.
Evening College Principal Dr Subhashini Shrivatsa and Car Street Government First Grade College Associate Professor Dr Prakashchandra Shishila were present at the closing ceremony.
