
CBI bribery scandal: Davangere professor suspended for six months
Davangere University has taken disciplinary action against Microbiology Professor Gayatri Devaraj, suspending her for six months following her arrest by the CBI in a bribery case linked to the NAAC committee in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
During a special syndicate meeting on Thursday, university officials reviewed the allegations and decided to impose the suspension as per Karnataka Civil Services Rules (KCSR). Vice-Chancellor B D Kumbar stated that the official suspension order would be forwarded to the Governor and the state government for record-keeping.
Gayatri Devaraj, who was part of the NAAC investigation panel, was recently detained by the CBI for allegedly accepting bribes. The investigative agency also conducted a thorough search of her residence in Davangere city as part of the probe.
Previously, Gayatri held the position of registrar at Davangere University. Her arrest has raised serious concerns within academic circles, with university authorities emphasizing the need for integrity in educational institutions.
