
Chaos in the Hills: Rains Wreak Havoc in Chikkamagaluru District
Relentless rainfall across Chikkamagaluru district has triggered a series of distressing incidents, including vehicle mishaps, fallen trees, and landslide threats.
In Koppa taluk, a tragic incident occurred when a tree collapsed on an auto-rickshaw, killing Ratnakara Hegde (45) of Shidlemane, Bhairedevaru village. He was returning from Koogre village after dropping passengers when the mishap occurred on Sunday afternoon.
Elsewhere, two cars plunged into a tributary of the Hemavathi River at Ramannana Gandi and Chakkamakki near Banakal in Mudigere taluk. Thanks to the quick action of local residents, all occupants were safely rescued.
Another alarming incident occurred near a state highway, where a car overturned after the driver lost control. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Widespread heavy rain battered regions including Kalasa, Koppa, Balehonnur, Aldur, Sringeri, Narasimharajapura, and Chikkamagaluru city. Multiple trees and electric poles have toppled, disrupting daily life and creating hazardous road conditions.
Adding to the concerns, land movement near Kavikalgandi on Bababudengiri Road caused panic. In response, PWD personnel deployed sandbags to stabilize the slope and prevent potential landslides.
Authorities remain on high alert, urging residents to avoid travel in vulnerable areas and report emergencies promptly.
