Mangaluru: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy in association with Sevanjali Charitable Trust has started a free ambulance service for patients in an emergency.
On Thursday June 10 in a simple ceremony, the ambulance was handed over to Hanumanth Kamath, secretary of Sevanjali charitable trust by Manohar Kamath registrar of Konkani Sahitya Academy.
The vehicle has been utilised after being inactive for some time. The ambulance will now be available for service and emergency medical care for patients.
Speaking to News Karnataka, Secretary of Sevanjali Charitable trust Hanumanth Kamath said " Konkani Sahitya Academy had a tempo, which they handed over to us. All the charges of the repair borne by our trust and we have converted the vehicle into the ambulance. The cleaning, maintenance, and charges of the driver will be managed and paid by us. After the Covid pandemic the vehicle will be returned to the academy," he said.
"The ambulance will be used to shift the Covid patients to hospitals, and to their homes after discharge. even it is used to carry deadbodies. The ambulance service will be available morning to evening," he added.
Konkani Sahitya Academy members Arun Shet, Gopal Krishna Bhat, Canute Pinto, Naresh Shenoy, Naresh Prabhu, Siddhartha Prabhu, and others were present at the event.
