Yuvraj Singh’s NGO Faces Backlash for Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign Comparing Breasts to ‘Oranges’
Cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s non-profit organization, YouWeCan Foundation, has come under fire for a breast cancer awareness campaign that controversially compares breasts to “oranges.” The campaign, aimed at promoting early detection of breast cancer, has sparked outrage, with many critics calling it inappropriate and demeaning.
Posters featuring the comparison were displayed in the Delhi metro, and after being noticed, social media quickly filled with disapproval. One X user shared a photo of the poster, criticizing the campaign’s choice of language, stating, “How will a country raise Breast Cancer Awareness if we can’t even call breasts what they are?” The user questioned the thought process behind such campaigns and called it “shameful and embarrassing.”
How will a country raise Breast Cancer Awareness is we can’t even call breasts what they are. Saw this at Delhi Metro and like what the hell? Check your oranges? Who makes these campaigns, who approves them? Are we governed by such dumb people that they let this poster become… pic.twitter.com/YAZ5WYSxXf

Many social media users agreed, pointing out that the word “breasts” should be used in a respectful manner, and criticized the campaign for trivializing a serious health issue. One person commented, “This is not awareness, this is cheapness.” Others highlighted that Yuvraj Singh, a cancer survivor himself, should have known the gravity of the issue.
For context, Yuvraj Singh was diagnosed with mediastinal seminoma, a rare form of lung cancer, in 2011. After undergoing extensive treatment, including chemotherapy, in the United States, Yuvraj was declared cancer-free in 2012.
As the controversy unfolds, many are calling for the campaign to be re-evaluated to better reflect the sensitivity needed for such an important health issue.
